Dead Darlings #4INADVERTENT COPY
Fourth Edition — 19 December 2009Mediamatic, Mass, Amsterdam
We began by looking at our own practices and those of our peers to find a theme that genuinely reflected the inner struggle that might lead to the murder of a darling.

After hearing about quite a few of these cases from artists across the board, we came up with Inadvertent Copy.
This remains one of my favorite Dead Darlings editions to date because it was fun, informative and exciting but also included a wistful, regretful feeling since many of these works would not normally have been killed by the artist: they were ‘killed’ by the discovery of a previously created doppleganger.

One of our most challenging locations, a former gay sauna annexed at the time by Mediamatic, set the tone for one of our most chaotic and grueling events. Of course, this is the one my mother came to see.
