About Dead Darlings
Anonymous Art Auction
Dead Darlings is an interactive event combining elements of performance and exhibition that come together in the form of a non-profit anonymous art auction. Our collective has been active, and organising this event annually since 2005. For the event, we self-publish a handmade catalogue; we put together an online preview, open our doors for viewing before the auction and conclude in a live auction that is open to the general public. By tradition, all the lots will be introduced by title only. The contributing artists will be listed on our website, but will not be revealed in connection to the work until the sale is final. There is no charge for participation. 40% on sales will be held back to cover the production costs of this non-profit event. All proceeds made from artwork sales go to our favourite “charity”: the people who made the work.

Dead Darlings — Flash in the Pan
will take place at Hollanda Turkiyeli Isciler Birligi De Vereniging van Arbeiders uit Turkije in Nederland — Eerste Weteringplantsoen 2BII,
1017 SJ Amsterdam.
Dear Artists,
Sometimes a work had its 15 minutes of fame, its brief moment in the spotlight and then got put aside, never really given a proper chance… It may not be a darling killed by you during the artistic process, but rather an “undead” darling, gathering dust in a corner of your studio, or hanging unappreciated in your mothers’ guest bedroom. Let’s give that piece a second chance at our December auction!
Though our upcoming Design auction has been scheduled for February at the HNI in Rotterdam, we decided not to let 2018 squeeze past us without putting together an Amsterdam based edition of a Dead Darlings — Anonymous Art Auction!
For the last few years we have been lucky enough to collaborate with institutions, museums and art fairs, which has been great, but we kind of miss our more informal, grassroots origins. So we want to put a DD together on the fly, to enjoy and celebrate with our community just in time for the December Saturnalia celebrations where the spirit of gift-giving, charity and reversal of fortunes transformed the Roman world to let’s face it: a more fun place!
Therefore, we are prepared to bend one of our usual requirements for a DD submission,— in fact this year’s theme allows the work to be previously shown or published.
*A Flash in the Pan
“A thing or person whose sudden but brief success
is not repeated or repeatable.”
“Something that shows great promise,
then disappoints by being over too quickly.”
Maybe it was part of a group show or a reaction to a theme, only published in a book or made for a magazine, maybe it was site specific and taken out of context, maybe it was just created for an open day or failed to sell at a fundraiser… Whatever the origin story, the main thing is that you feel it deserves a second chance at the spotlight!
(obviously it can’t be something selling at your gallery or even through your website, we don’t want any trouble with the establishment, and our collectors like to come to DD to find the more obscure creations of the artists imagination, so keep it interesting!)
You need to act fast, deadline: 15 November 2018
Send us your submission to submit@deaddarlings.nl with:
