Dear Artists,
Let’s come together and support W139! Here is your chance to put your art to work in the service of the community: donate an artwork to our upcoming online auction. This Valentine’s Day W139, Dead Darlings and talk show Stampa join forces to offer artists and the public a chance to stand together against the threat of defunding and shutting down this historic, iconic Amsterdam institution!
Founded in 1979, this art production and exhibition space is the only stepping stone left for upcoming artists in the city center. We ask artists connected to the art-space throughout the years, but also those of you who simply admire the work that happens there, to contribute an artwork for an auction that aims to raise both awareness and funds.
This online auction will be run by Dead Darlings collective, who will never forget that W139 was the first institution to host one of our earliest events back in 2006!
Join us for DDW139, the 13th edition of the Dead Darlings — Love for Sale: Alles moet weg? auction.
Deadline for application:
January 30, 2021

Deliver your artwork to W139
February 1–3, 2021
Online auction starts:
February 12, 2021 at 12:00
Online auction ends:
February 14, 2021 at 18:00
About this event:
All proceeds from this auction will go to W139. Artworks are donated by artists, profits from the sales go directly to W139 in support of their struggle to keep the foundation and the center of Amsterdam alive. Please note that there is no budget for costs incurred such as transport etc. Artists are responsible for delivering their works to W139, and collectors for picking up the pieces they buy either personally or by proxy.
The auction will be anonymous and held online. All contributing artists are listed alphabetically, but not connected to the work they made, until the sale is final. The name of the artist will be revealed next to the work on the website after closure of the auction on February 14 at 18:00 during the online marathon-videocast of talk show Stampa #15.
The auction is inclusive and accessible to all. Bidding starts at a low threshold, commencing at 50 € for all works, no matter their intrinsic value. This helps to reach more people, add excitement to the auction, and democratize the anonymously placed works, demonstrating that their value here, in this context, is determined not by the art market, but by their contribution to the art community.
Our theme is: Love for Sale: Alles moet weg? For this auction, the piece doesn’t need to be a dead darling, it can be any work, exhibited or not, that you wish to contribute for this benefit. Since our auction closes on Valentine’s day, we hope you can select a work loosely connected to the themes of love and solidarity. We hope to prevent the commercialization of the center of Amsterdam, using love for art as a weapon!
How to join the auction: Select the work you wish to contribute — any medium is welcome. Fill in our simple form with all necessary information, add a high-res picture and write a short text. Bring or send your piece to W139 (Warmoesstraat 139, 1012 JB Amsterdam) between February 1–3. Share the link to the auction with all your friends and collectors. Perhaps bid for a work you love, contributing as a collector as well as an artist!
