Athens Calling! Open Call to All Athens based Artists!
Dead Darlings are on the move again! We heard Athens calling loud and clear, so we decided to head to Greece with our fabulous Anonymous Art Auction. We would love you to be part of it! The auction will take place in the heart of the city at the T.A.F. / the art foundation in collaboration with Cream Athens on December 17!
Have you heard the phrase kill your darlings? “Dead darlings” are the artworks we focus on: outliers, misfits, beautiful experiments that didn’t find a place in your oeuvre. They might be hidden away in a drawer or the back corner of your studio. Through our auction, these exceptional artworks get a second chance for love, and we get to tell their stories. Our goal is to bring every last one of them back to life!
To take part, simply fill in this form. Make sure all the info is correct and your name is written the way you wish it to be published. Images of your work must be clear and meet the specifications given. Remember the text you send us is intended for publication, so keep it short and interesting.

DEADLINE: 15 NOVEMBER 2023
Our Auction is informal, inclusive, and anonymous! The artworks are auctioned anonymously, so the buyer can truly connect to what they love! Participating artists are listed, but the names are not revealed in relation to the lot until after the sale. A dead darling is an artefact with no commercial value attached to it, if it wasn’t for our auction, most would never be “on the market”. This is why our starting prices are largely symbolic, so please keep them low. *60% of the final selling price goes directly to the maker, we keep 40% to cover our production costs.
This is how we do it: There is no participation fee; all submissions will be considered. To submit, you need to be the maker of your piece (one lot per maker). Participants must be trained as an artist or working as one. Please read and follow the instructions on our form carefully. Remember to keep your starting prices low; let the audience raise the price… Our open call is international, but the focus of this edition is to get to know Athens based artists and most of all, to find out why they’ve killed their darlings! Keep in mind that if your work is selected, you are responsible for delivering, or otherwise making sure that your piece arrives safely at the location (T.A.F). More info on this will be provided in the email that follows the selection process.
Who are Dead Darlings? Dead Darlings are a collective founded in Amsterdam in 2005, running anonymous art auctions as a platform that challenges notions of value and explores the complex love triangle between artist, artwork, and collector. Our focus is on artefacts whose value is ambiguous. Our events combine elements of performance and exhibition. As a collective we bring something “unseen” into the public sphere. We are excited to do this in Athens with you.
T.A.F. / the art foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that supports emerging artists, experimentation and the exploration and encounter of different fields of art. It is open to curatorial proposals and hosts exhibitions with an emphasis on the collective spirit. The New Museum of Contemporary Art has chosen T.A.F. / the art foundation as one of the 3 representatives of Greece for the promotion of Contemporary Greek Art. Since its creation in 2009, it has hosted more than 1,500 artists from Greece and abroad, while it is always open to more hybrid proposals, thus creating a vibrant platform in the city centre, a multi-space and a network of thinking and creative individuals.
Founded in 2017 by Nia Hefe Filiogianni, Cream Athens supports emerging and established artists and provides development opportunities through group or tailored coaching sessions, and collaborations with galleries, brands, and different partners across the globe. We strengthen communities and encourage the coming together of creatives in exchanging ideas and bringing significant change to the art world.
