Dead Darlings #2
Second Edition — 2 July 2006
Our second auction took place at the invitation of one of our former participants — one of our first fans — who felt our event could fit into a series of works and performances he was programming after having received a grant.
It had been a year since our graduation and the theme of this auction, Metamorphosis, reflected that. Our work was changing; our way of working was changing, and darlings were falling between the cracks of those changes. We were in the real world now and had to find our place in it as did the work we made.
For our open call we invited artists to give us darlings that had become Dead Darlings because of an important transition in their makers’ oeuvres. I remember my work reflected a very awkward transition between photography and three-dimensional forms whereas Lina’s contribution was a clear comment on analogue versus digital.
Metamorphosis was also our very first catalogue. Putting it together was just as much work as planning the event itself, — and so worth it! We finished making it just hours before the auction and the result felt like a work in itself. Artist names were printed on small stickers that could be placed next to their work after the sale to complete the catalogue.
